My gamer tag, Soulsgains, has a unique story behind it. I started playing Dark Souls and wanted to get gains from push-ups, so I combined the two and became Soulsgains. It's a name that reflects my passion for gaming and fitness.
My first game was Pokémon Blue Version, which I played back in 1999. I was just a kid, but that game sparked a passion in me that would only grow stronger over time. I remember exploring the Kanto region, catching Pokémon, and battling gym leaders. It was an incredible experience that laid the foundation for my gaming journey.
I have a few favorite games, but Elden Ring takes the top spot. It's like a completed version of Dark Souls, but better. The game feels more fleshed out, with a competent writer behind it. Minecraft comes in second, as it's my perfect zen game. I can relax and craft anything I want, making it a great way to unwind. Dark Souls 3 and World of Warcraft tie for third place. Dark Souls 3 was the first Dark Souls game where I took my time to understand the story and mechanics, while World of Warcraft holds a special place in my heart as my first MMO.
I've played over 100-200 games, exploiting a system at Gamestop to play and return games within a week. It was a great way to try out different games without committing to a purchase. My favorite genre is RPGs, specifically MMOs, but I've faced issues with cookie-cutter strategies taking the fun out of exploration. I prefer games that challenge me and encourage creativity.
I started playing games at 3-4 years old, beginning with chess and Pokémon. My dad was hands-off, letting me figure things out on my own, which made me enjoy gaming even more. Beating Donkey Kong 64's arcade level at 10 years old is still a cherished memory. It took me three months to beat, but the sense of accomplishment was incredible.
I stream for a few reasons. First, I wanted to overcome my camera shyness and become more comfortable speaking in front of an audience. Second, I wanted to share my gaming experiences with others and build a community of like-minded gamers. Third, I wanted to get back into shape, and streaming my workouts has helped me stay motivated. I'm also interested in doing longer-form reviews of anime and gaming, and eventually playing games with my future kid, teaching them independence and artistic expression through gaming.
Gaming is more than just a hobby for me - it's a way of life. I believe that games can teach us valuable skills, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity. They can also provide a sense of community and belonging, which is essential for our well-being. I want to share my passion for gaming with others and inspire them to find their own love for the hobby.
In the next five years, I hope to be a dad and start playing games with my kid. I want to introduce them to the world of gaming and teach them the skills I've learned over the years. I also hope to continue streaming and building my community, sharing my experiences with others and learning from them. Ultimately, I want to leave a lasting impact on the gaming world and inspire others to find their own passion for gaming.
